Evaluation, Counseling & Work Adjustment Training

The First Occupational Center of New Jersey helps its clients to become vocationally able and economically independent through meaningful work. For those seeking help from OCNJ, our licensed counselors are the first point of contact. OCNJ certified vocational evaluators and counselors assist clients through systematic vocational evaluations to best utilize their skills and match their vocational interests. This is followed by specialized educational programming, work adjustment and job training and, ultimately, placement in the community workforce or with one of OCNJ’s own business enterprises.

Sheltered and Extended Employment

Provides a gradual approach to the work environment through professional guidance, so that each client can develop at his or her own pace. Sheltered clients are referred by the Division of Developmental Disabilities. Extended clients are referred by the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation Services.

Supported Employment

Assigns trained job coaches to newly employed clients in order to help them adjust to new surroundings, meet job demands, and realize employer expectations.

Adult Basic Education

Adult Basic Education is a remedial education program for OCNJ’s clients, designed to improve their reading and math levels as well as their independent living skills.
